Close Push-ups

Intermediate Level 42/100

Close-grip push-ups place the hands directly under the sternum, making the triceps the main driver with the inner chest assisting. They are the best no-equipment movement for developing the triceps as a whole.

Execution

Hands under the sternum, closer than standard, fingers forward. Elbows glued or very close to the torso, traveling BACKWARD on the way down (not out). Chest lowers toward the hands. Drive up with the triceps.

Vs diamond

Close-grip leaves more space between the hands than diamond, with a slightly larger range of motion.

Balance and core

The narrower base demands more core activation for stability.

Progression

3×12 perfect close-grip reps before moving to diamond push-ups.
