Wide Pull-ups
Wide pull-ups place the hands well beyond shoulder width. That changes the pull angle and emphasizes the upper/outer lat fibers plus teres major—helping build the classic "V" taper of a well-developed calisthenics back.
How emphasis changes
With a wide grip, the elbow cannot come as close to the body at the top, reducing biceps involvement and making the upper lat work harder. Many athletes combine standard and wide pull-ups to develop the lat fully.
Execution
Pronated grip, hands 1.5-2× shoulder width. From the hang, pull until the chin clears the bar or the chest approaches it. Elbows travel straight down (not back like standard). Lower with control.
Difficulty
Slightly harder than standard for most people, especially early reps where leverage is less favorable.
Common error
Going so wide that the shoulder joint is at risk. Stay within ~2× shoulder width.
