Push

Typewriter Push-ups

Advanced Level 68/100

Typewriter push-ups are named for the lateral slide at the bottom of the rep, like a typewriter carriage. That slide creates intense isometric tension in the chest on the side you move toward.

Execution

From a very wide plank, lower until the chest is at hand level. WITHOUT coming up, slide laterally until that arm is nearly straight and the other is deeply bent. Slide to the other side. Then press up. That is one full rep.

Isometric work

In the slid position, the pec on the bent-arm side holds body weight in a max isometric contraction—extremely demanding.

Progression

Increase pause time on each side during the slide.

Errors

Pressing up between slides (incomplete rep); hip rotation during the lateral slide.
